The. Hague. Most picture international government and justice bodies and canals and city. BUT THERE'S SO MUCH MORE! Who knew?!? (probably plenty of people...) But if those plenty of people haven't told you like they hadn't told me, let me explain... The Hague is a perfect place to be for work and fun (and fun work!)

Top 5 Experiences in The Hague, Netherlands

1} Walk around.

Okay, this is obvious, but hear me out! Walk down the cobblestone streets and enjoy the very unique architecture and super fun street art... The city successfully blends old Dutch architecture (genuinely unique to other European styles) with modern street art.

2} The Beach!

Um. What? First, any geography lesson will tell you this place is on the North Sea. K. And any social studies lesson will tell you about all the international bodies located here... Cool. So you expect this place to be serious and northern. Well you are all wrong. Go spend a day in Scheveningen.

Grab a fresh cocktail and international food beachfront. Bora Bora is great for some Dutch Tapas and Zanzibar is a unique beach grilling experience!

Finally, no matter what, promise me you won't skip sunset.

3} Be artsy.

Even a colleague travelling with me who self describes as "hating art" spent more time in Mauritshuis than I did. Most famously, the Girl with the Pearl Earring resides here, but there's also the last Rembrandt self portrait and loads of other very interesting pieces. It's also small enough so even those without an art interest will enjoy it.

4} Be Fancy.

You could always stay at Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus and really do it up, but you could also grab dinner, or just a coffee, or even simply walk through the lobby. It's stunning yet old and is not just for residents and guests!

5} Visit the ICC.

... or your international government body de jure. There's plenty, so get your smart on and get out there!
